Each handcrafted boot costs $500 to make and the waiting list for them reaches 6 months. The following year, the Bank of Vermont says yes to Merrell shoes and invests in the fledgeling company.

H.J. Justin left Lafayette, Indiana with a dream in his heart to start a new life in Spanish Fort, Texas. Justin started his career as a boot repairman but soon began his own boot company running it in his home. The business saw an opportunity and moved to Nocona, Texas in 1889 when a new railroad was built there.
In 1908, H.J.'s sons (John and Earle) came to work for him, and the company was renamed H.J. Justin and Sons. In 1910, a pair of Justin Boots would set you back $11 - no measly some in those days. At that time you could get them in 26 states, Cuba, Mexico and Canada.
When their father died in 1918, John and Earle took over the running of the Justin Boots business and in 1925 they moved the headquarters to Fort Worth.
Timewent by and John Justin Jr purchased a controlling interest in the company in 1948. Suddenly Justin Boots were growing again.
